Key findings

Signals in some behavioral domains

Signals of improvement were reported in irritability and hyperactivity domains.

Analyses by scale and observation period

ABC and SRS subdomains were analyzed separately by observation period.

Pooled analysis of earlier trials

A pooled analysis of earlier trials that also includes registry results.

Detailed results

Behavioral and social responsiveness outcomes from several controlled trials were pooled.

Controlled sulforaphane trials were pooled, focusing on ABC and SRS. ABC subdomains such as irritability, hyperactivity, and social withdrawal were also analyzed.

Significant improvements were reported in irritability and hyperactivity.

Why the conclusions differ somewhat from other meta-analyses

Pooled results can differ by selected scales, subdomains, observation times, and pooling methods. In Wang's analysis, the hyperactivity difference was significant, while irritability was not.

Characteristics of the included original trials

Included trials varied in formulation, age, concomitant medication, and rater. The Guo, Wang, and Long meta-analyses include some of the same original studies.

Study design

Controlled trials were identified in literature databases and their ABC and SRS results pooled. The analysis included results from a ClinicalTrials.gov-registered trial as well as published papers.
