Broccoli soup and prostate tissue genes
Would a year of broccoli soups with different glucoraphanin contents change gene expression in prostate tissue?
Human · ESCAPE randomized controlled trial

Key findings
Differences in gene expression
Changes in inflammation- and epithelial–mesenchymal transition-related genes observed in the standard soup group appeared attenuated in the GLR-rich soup group.
Dietary comparison by GLR content
The same amount of soup was prepared with different GLR contents. This was a food intervention using broccoli soup.
Tissue response as the primary assessment
RNA analysis of prostate tissue assessed gene responses related to inflammation and epithelial–mesenchymal transition.
Study design
Sixty-one patients with prostate cancer under active surveillance were assigned to three groups, and 49 completed the study. They consumed 300mL of soup weekly for 12 months, with 72, 214, or 492μmol of GLR per serving.
