Proliferation and metastasis markers in a mouse breast cancer model
How do low concentrations of sulforaphane affect cell proliferation and migration in models of triple-negative breast cancer?
Animal and cell · breast cancer mechanism experiment

Key findings
Tumor tissue and lung metastases in mice
The tumor cell-division marker was significantly lower, at 1.53 in the treated group versus 2.15 in controls. Lung metastatic nodules averaged 23 versus 34, but the between-group difference was not significant.
Cell migration by culture method
Inhibition of cell migration at the lower concentration was observed in cells derived from 3D spheroids. A higher concentration was needed to inhibit migration in 2D cultures.

Study design
Sixteen female mice implanted with 4T1 tumors were compared in groups of eight. SFN 0.026mg/kg was injected intraperitoneally on days 10, 16, and 23; tissues were analyzed on day 28. Parallel 2D and 3D cell experiments were also conducted.

Study context
The mouse injection experiment was conducted alongside cell experiments. The tumor cell-division marker decreased significantly, while the difference in the number of lung metastatic nodules was not significant.
