Key findings

Survival follow-up results

In a pilot trial of 40 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, the 180-day mortality rate was 25% in the intake group and 43% in the placebo group. The between-group difference was not statistically significant (p=0.291).

Study design

Of 40 patients with advanced pancreatic cancer, 29 in the intake group and 11 in the placebo group were followed for up to one year. Fifteen daily capsules contained SFN 90mg and GLR 180mg; actual allocation and maintenance of blinding had limitations.

Study context

The one-year dropout rate was 72% in the intake group and 55% in the placebo group. Patient preference affected allocation, and blinding was not maintained.

Observed during intake: The burden of taking 15 capsules daily and digestive discomfort, nausea, and vomiting were reported.
